POLICE have been detecting more crimes in Moreton than last year, according to latest figures.

From March 9 to April 8, the detection rate has increased by 200 per cent, compared with the same period last year.

PC Sarah Crawford, of the Moreton Community neighbourhood policing team, told councillors at Monday night's meeting that police had detected 12 crimes compared with four in the same period last year.

She said over the last month there have been two assaults, an increase of one compared with one last year, and an increase of anti-social behaviour at the skate park as the weather changes.

There has also been two burglaries, one at a dwelling and one at an industrial unit, she said.

"The burglary at the industrial unit has been detected, the one at the home has not been," she said. "The good work of the neighbourhood watch scheme is stepping up a gear as the weather improves.

"The pickpocketing operation on a Tuesday market day is still on going and seems to be doing well.

"We haven't had one reported to us. We've also applied to Tony Dix at Cotswold District Council for purse chains."

Chairman Ali Coggins said: "With the 200 per cent increase, that's fantastic thank you.Community clearly is key and the quality of intelligence you get from the public is important."

Vice-chairman Terry Todd added: "Since Sarah has been with us the presence in Moreton has been terrific."
