A STRATFORD District Councillor for Shipston is set to challenge MP Nadhim Zahawi in the 2015 elections.

University Law Professor Jeff Kenner, has been selected by the Labour party to contest the Stratford Parliamentary Constituency next year.

Councillor Kenner, of Brailes, who won the Shipston by-election for Labour in 2012, said he was "proud and honoured" to have been selected.

"Labour is ready and determined to be the main challenger to the Conservatives in Stratford in 2015," he said. "The Liberal Democrats are discredited and declining. They cannot win here.

"My message is straightforward - if you have had enough of Nadhim Zahawi and you feel let down by the Liberal Democrats, it is time to choose Labour because Stratford can do better than this."

Cllr Kenner said he has four key priorities for the constituency which are investing in infrastructure to cope with a growing population, encourgage Stratford District Council to start building social housing again in collaboration with Housing Associations to meet local need for affordable homes and revive the market towns and villages to attract new businesses and promote tourism.

He is also focussing on the arts to make them accessible to everyone in the community.
