MORETON'S first ever farmers market has been hailed a "stupendous"success by organisers.

The High Street car park was heaving with 30 stalls on Sunday, April 6 for the first in what will be a monthly event in the town.

Organised by Cotswold Markets Ltd, which runs the Tuesday market in the town, the farmers market is held on the first Sunday of the month from 9.30am to 2pm.

And the first free craft stall, which is offered every month to artists and craft people who want to try their luck at trading, was taken up by Louisa Muckle who makes baby gifts.

Doug Cotton, Cotswold Markets Ltd secretary, said: "It was stupendous. Trade was full throughout from 9.30am and people were there before then.

"I think it went very well and the weather forecast didn't put people off either. I've no doubt it will be a popular event. The people of Moreton now have the best of both worlds.

"They have they opportunity every Tuesday to go to the most noted and famous retail market in the world and now once a month they've the opportunity to see some of the best local produce and drinks.

"What could be better than that?

"I fully foresee it's impetus will grow and will continue to be a popular and a very soon established event."

Moreton Town Council, which gave its full backing to the market at its March meeting, will decide who has the free craft stall every month.

Anyone interested in a stall should call the Cotswold Markets office on 01386 840138 or for a free craft stall call town clerk Heather Sipthorp on 01608 651448.
