A GOLF club near Bourton is helping a charity by chipping in to its collection to help poverty in Africa.

Men's captain Will Mustoe and course manager Robert Hook, from Naunton Downs Golf Club, have teamed up to support Tools for Self Reliance.

The small UK-based charity has a small number of staff and hundreds of volunteers who help to collect and refurbish tools before they are sent to work again in Ghana, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia with the aim of building sustainable livelihoods.

The golfing pair are now gathering carpenters, builders, metalworkers, shoe repairers, plumbers and electricians tools along with Singer round bobbin hand sewing machines, and electric machines in good order.

Other items in short supply are 240v Arc Welders and accessories, wire strippers, heavy duty foot pumps, sharp half round flies, metric tape measures, metric taps and dies sets, tailors shears and wood carving chisels, gouges and mallets.

People with any items can deliver them during collection week at the golf club from Monday, May 19 and Sunday, May 25.
