COTSWOLD District Council's three per cent reduction in council tax payments is the joint largest in the country, it has been confirmed.

The reduction for 2014-15, announced in February by council leader, Councillor Lynden Stowe, is the same as Hammersmith and Fulham Council.

Cllr Stowe said: “We owe it to taxpayers to reduce our overheads whenever possible. Our efficiency programme includes a marked increase in joint working with West Oxfordshire and other councils to cut costs and pool resources, and this has enabled us to retain all our essential frontline services while cutting the share of Council Tax that we require from residents.

"Thanks to the cost saving measures we have embedded in our operations, we can also state confidently that the public will see no rises in charges for car parking, leisure and green waste collection until at least 2016."

A recent study showed CDC is now one of the top five most efficient councils in the country, due in part to the five per cent reduction in council tax 2013-14 – the biggest in the country at the time - and the latest three per cent reduction.
