A DEVELOPER is preparing to submit an application to Cotswold District Council for 140 homes across two sites in Moreton.

CALA Homes, which has already developed two other sites in the town including Moreton Park, is proposing to build two, three, four and five-bedroom properties in on land off Todenham Road and Dulverton Place.

Fifty per cent of the development, which will include one-bedroom bungalows, will be affordable homes for shared ownership and would be built in phases to minimise impact of the development.

As part of the plans, CALA is intending to create a park at the centre of the two sites, which will form an extension to the existing Blenheim Park.

Pedestrian and cycle links will be provided from the proposed residential developments to the parkland along with access to the town centre via new and existing footpaths.

A resident who lives in Moreton Park said he was concerned the proposals was a development too far.

"The biggest problem is there's just no work around the area," he said. "So people have to get in their cars and travel. On Tuesdays when you've got market day you struggle to get through the place anyway.

"It's all very well building all these lovely houses but where do they go to work?"

Jon Thompson, land director at CALA Homes Midlands, said: "We have designed an attractive development in keeping with the character of the town, which will generate significant investment in local facilities and services.

"Submitting an application now would allow the properties to be built in phases from early 2016 onwards to help minimise the impact of the development.

“Our proposals also include an extensive 3.8 hectare green open space at the centre of the development, which will form an extension to the existing Blenheim Park for the benefit of the wider community.

"This new parkland will also help to address the current shortage of open space in Moreton as identified in the Cotswold Open Space Study.”

If the development goes ahead, investment will be made by CALA through a Section 106 agreement towards local services and facilities.
