COTSWOLD District Council is gearing up to celebrating Commonwealth Day with flag raising ceremony.

Councillor Sir Edward Horsfall, Chairman of Cotswold District Council, and Councillor Joe Harris, the Mayor of Cirencester, will be attending a flag raising ceremony at the council's Trinity Road headquarters at 10am on Monday, March 10.

The ceremony provides an opportunity to promote greater understanding of global issues, international co-operation and the work of the Commonwealth’s organisations as they aim to improve the lives of hundreds of millions of citizens.

In total, 500 Commonwealth flags will be raised on the day throughout the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man and this will be the first time that local authorities across the country will be participating.

Town, district and parish councillors, CDC staff, and members of the public are invited to join the event at Trinity Road, Cirencester, which will take place around the flagpole outside the entrance to the Council Chamber.
