THIEVES broke into a PE shed at Blockley School but made off without taking anything.
The theft happened between 4pmon Friday, February 7 and 9am on Sunday, February 9 - the same weekend as three Cotswold pubs were broken into.
But Chris Jackson, spokesman for Gloucestershire Police, said the crimes were not being linked.
"Unknown persons used tools to force the shed open," he said. "It caused damage to the wood and bending to the metal hasps of the lock.
"We are not linking them."
Headteacher Linda Jeffcut said she was glad nothing was stolen.
"Luckily they didn't take anything," she said. "It would have been heartbreaking if they had taken any of the children's sports equipment."
