THERE is still a few days to nominate people for the West Oxfordshire sporting awards and apply for sports grants.

West Oxfordshire’s Sports Coach of the Year, Sports Club of the Year and Unsung Hero awards recognize the contribution and commitment of individuals and the achievements of clubs across the district.

And talented local athletes also have up to Thursday to apply for GLL sport Foundation grants with awards of between £100 and £1,250 available to help with costs such as training.

Cllr Richard Langridge, Cabinet Member for Local Economy, Communities and Culture said, “The awards are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and thank both individuals and a local club for dedicating their time and efforts to helping others.

"We look forward to receiving nominations as there are so many people in our sporting community who are a real inspiration.”

The deadline for award nominations is Thursday. To nominate visit westoxon.gov.uk/leisure or call the council’s leisure team on 01993 861080.

To make an application for funding visit gllsportfoundation.org.

- The 2013 Coach of the Year award went to Chipping Norton Rugby Club’s senior coach, Andy Dawson, who is director of coaching, director of rugby, grounds man and mentor at the Club.
