PLANS for 17 retirement apartments on a brownfield site in Stow have been submitted to Cotswold District Council.

Developer McCarthy & Stone is hoping to build the new homes on the site in Lower Swell Road along with 17 car parking spaces.

The site, which houses warehouse buildings and open storage areas, is currently occupied by Stow Agricultural Services Ltd which is due to relocate to larger premises.

A public consultation and exhibition was held in December which the developer said generated some local support, particularly towards the redevelopment of the site with homes for older people.

Lorena Brown, regional managing director at McCarthy & Stone, said: “We’re very encouraged that our plans have already received some positive local feedback.

"We have strived to introduce a scheme that will improve the appearance of this commercial site and will make a positive contribution to the special character of the area, whilst improving the range of housing choice available to people in later life.

"It is important that a community meets the housing needs of all its residents, and this development would help meet a local, and growing, housing need in the area."
