ALLOTMENT rents in Bourton are staying the same for another year, after a decision by the parish council.

Members decided to keep the rents the same for the Springvale, Cemetery Lane and Piece Hedge but agreed they might have to increase the rents in the future.

But vice chairman Tim Faulkner said he was worried the parish council could be making a loss with the rising cost of water and suggested increasing the price by a small amount each year rather than in one big chunk.

“I’m surprised we almost break even,” he said. “I’m all in favour of encouraging allotments but we’ve got to be realistic.”

Chairman Bryan Sumner said: “Taking your point, we need to look at this on a year on year basis. We do have a rather large water bill. I think it’s a warning bell for next year.”
