GENEROURS shoppers in Gloucestershire raised nearly £8,500 for the British Red Cross Typhoon Haiyan appeal.

More than 3,600 people were killed by the devastating storm which ravaged the central Philippines on November 8 and left about half a million homeless.

Nationally, volunteers raised £628,000 for the appeal in just two days, the largest amount of money ever raised by the public for a British Red Cross emergency appeal in 48 hours.
