WORKERS from Severn Trent Water worked through Christmas Day to stop a burst pipe ruining people’s celebrations.

The pipe burst in Hill Furze Road, between Fladbury and Bishampton, near Pershore, at about 4am on Christmas Day and teams were on the scene before supply to homes had even been affected.

Area leakage manager Martin Skyba said workers were on hand every day of the year to deal with problems.

“There was a real possibility that this could spoil Christmas Day for our customers, so we acted fast,” he said.

“We know how important it is to have water on the big day – how else can you cook the sprouts? We managed the job as we would any other day of the year – quickly and safely.

“We were able to restore water supplies within two hours, meaning the sprouts were safe.”

Meanwhile, Severn Trent says water leaks and other issues can still be reported over the holiday period.

Customer service centre manager Paul Baldwyn said: “We’d like to reassure our customers we’re here to help with any water or sewage issues that happen.

“We are a 24/7 business and we work all day and all night, every day of the year, including Christmas Day.

“We have people in our call centres and field teams ready to fix bursts and clear sewer blockages.”

Anyone who has a problem with supplies or flooding should call 0800 783 4444.

The call centre dealing with customer bills enquiries will also be open as usual, from 8am till 8pm Monday to Friday and Saturday 8am till 1pm, but will be closed on bank holidays.
