Good year for growers

IT HAS been another championship year for Stow allotment holder Rob Jeffries, who has won four titles at this year’s Allotment Association Annual Show.
Mr Jeffries was the winner of the sections for flowers, vegetables and allotment association members, and was crowned overall champion for the second year running.
Chris Small, allotment chairman, said: “Rob is an exceptional grower whose commitment and dedication to his plot results in some outstanding produce.
“Competition was very close this year but Rob is a true champion who always displays first-class vegetables and flowers.”
Despite a tricky beginning to the growing season this year, when heavy rain and cold weather meant a slow start on the allotments, the produce at this year’s annual show was of an exceptionally high standard.
The judges were particularly impressed with the artistry and cooking skills of Ruth Cox, who won both the flower arranging and baking titles.
The show was held at Stow Royal British Legion during the Cotswold Festival weekend.
“It was great to welcome so many visitors to our show,”added Mr Small.
