Showcase for crafty folk
2:00pm Thursday 24th October 2013 in News
HANDMADE crafts created by arty Cotswold folk are being showcased in a new shop in Stow.
Vivant Boutique is opening in the Brewery Yard, Sheep Street, on Saturday and will feature crafts including jewellery, glassware, enamel, photographs and textiles.
Owner Jill Lawrence, who is selling her own hand-made jewellery along with other creations by local and national artists, has brought her business to the town after first setting up in France.
The 48-year-old moved out to the Aveyron area of the Midi-Pyrenees region two years ago with her partner and started selling her work at markets.
Ms Lawrence said: “The shop has come about from my own ‘escape’ from 25 years of working in the public sector, when I moved to France with my partner and started making jewellery, indulging my love of being creative.
“We are very excited about how it is coming together and the interest generated by local creators and other businesses.
“There is a particular focus on everything in the shop of being handmade. I wanted to support the UK handmade market.”
For the shop’s opening weekend, it will be supporting Breakthrough Breast Cancer, as part of the charity’s ‘Pink October’ campaign.
Opening hours are from 9.30am to 5pm Tuesday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
