Helping to give poverty stricken children a brighter future
6:35pm Tuesday 1st October 2013 in News
THE founder of a charity which aims to give poverty stricken youngsters a better start in life as well as a brighter future, is holding an event in Broadway.
Avryl Donovan set up the Laos Educational Trust in 2009 to help children in the poorest regions of the country in south east Asia, to get a better education. Many children leave school at 11 because their parents cannot afford to pay for the costs, but the charity helps raise money to keep children learning for longer.
She is inviting people to an evening at The Lifford Hall in Broadway on Saturday, October 19 at 6.45pm where guests can enjoy a buffet supper, a chance to purchase unique items from Laos brought back by Mrs Donovan and a presentation on her work with the charity.
She visits Laos, which borders Thailand and Vietnam, every year to meet children who will benefit from the work of the charity which provides schools and sports equipment as well as other support.
Tickets cost £12 and are available by calling Mrs Donovan on 01386 853710, from Tisanes Tea Rooms in Broadway, or on the door on the evening of the event.
