Cheers as new hub is backed
8:30am Saturday 28th September 2013 in News
A MEETING for people to learn more about a new community hub in Blockley was met with cheers.
More than 120 people packed the Jubilee Hall last Friday to hear about the plans and to meet the architects on the project.
the Blockley Co-operative Association (BCA) was awarded a £500,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund’s Reaching Communities Programme in July.
The new building – which will be built next to the current one – currently occupied by 1960s public toilets, will include a shop, post office, café and disabled toilet.
Pam Merritt, BCA member, said: “It was a really good atmosphere and there was a lot of support for the project.
The residents are really excited and really pleased.”
BCA had already secured a £250,000 loan and a grant of £65,000 from the Community Builders Fund towards the £800,000 project. More than £118,000 was also raised by the village following a successful appeal last spring.
The shop will also hold digital sessions for computers or cameras, workshops, cooking classes and act as a prescription drop-off point.
