Tuning up for Chippy jazz day
1:00pm Saturday 21st September 2013 in News
CHIPPING Norton will once again be throbbing to the sounds of live bands in the 16th Chippy Jazz and Music Day.
Organised by the town’s rotary club, the free festival of classic jazz is taking place on Sunday, September 29.
There will be free gigs around the town from 11.30am to 11pm at venues including the town hall, Blue Boar, The Chequers, Old Mill Café, Red Lion Inn, The Square and Bitter & Twisted.
Bands include Swing from Paris with Jo Silver and Tom ‘Spats’ Langham, Silverthorne & Rachel Chai, CNS Allstars, Dickie White’s Allstars Walking Jazz Band and the Backroom Music Boys.
There are also four ticketed events – a jazz improvisation workshop in the town hall, the School Jazz Bands Concert, a performance from Tom ‘Spats’ Langham with his Hot Fingers Trio at The Chequers and an evening concert. All profits will go towards the rotary club’s chosen charities, Lawrence Home Nursing Team, SpecialEffect and End Polio Now.
Publicity officer Simon Hamilton said: “The whole idea is to put the town on the map and also to put jazz on the map.
“We’ve broadened Chippy Jazz to include other types of music such as swing, big band and other eclectic groups.
“It’s expected to be a fun day.
Over the years we have raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity and our aim is to continue to do so.
“It’s there for people to come along, have fun and enjoy music.”
