Call for residents’ parking permits
2:00pm Friday 20th September 2013 in News
THE possibility of permanent parking permits for Bourton residents was mulled over at a parish council meeting.
Villager Mollie Wise said she would like to see two parking areas in the centre of the village available for residents with permits.
She said it could be used in the 25 spaces in the High Street along Glebe Wall and 15 spaces between Rectory Lane and Moore Road.
Speaking during the public session at last week’s meeting, Mrs Wise said parking in the tourist hotspot was difficult especially for elderly residents and people from nearby villages.
“I would like to see these two areas purely for residents who hold a residents permit card,” she said.
“I met a resident from Stratford and he has a resident permit to park anywhere in Stratford.
“I just think it would be such a lovely idea for the people.
“If Stratford can do it why can’t it work here? I’m not asking for all day, just two hours.”
On-street parking enforcement in the Cotswolds is now carried out by Apcoa Parking after the company took over from the district council at Easter.
Chairman Bryan Sumner said there could be problems monitoring it.
“You’re going to have spaces available where others want to park but can’t.
Whether there could be a Monday to Friday limit on say five spaces, that might be a possibility.
“I would like Bill [Councillor Wragge] to take it back to his committee.”
Councillors agreed to discuss the issue at the next footpaths and traffic committee meeting.
