Roadworks on entrance to Evesham day before bridge closes
A SUBSIDENCE problem discovered on Worcester Road in Evesham has forced Worcestershire County Council to put in place traffic lights on the entrance into the town while work is carried out to investigate the problem.
The emergency roadworks, near to the Tesco superstore, come at the worst possible time for Evesham as tomorrow the Abbey Bridge closes for ten weeks as part of a scheme to replace it.
A Worcestershire County Council spokesperson, said: "Unfortunately, a subsidence problem was discovered earlier today on a section of Worcester Road, Evesham, near to the Tesco superstore.
“Temporary traffic lights have had to be installed at the site to ensure the area is safe for motorists and pedestrians using the road. Engineers are working as quickly as possible to find the cause of the problem and repair the damage to the highway.
“The timing of the problem is not ideal because of tomorrow's planned closure of the town's Abbey Bridge and Viaduct. The temporary lights on-site will be manually-controlled during peak times to help traffic flow.
“We appreciate this emergency work will cause inconvenience but would thank people in advance for their patience. Everything is being done to fix the issue as quickly as possible.”
