Raise a glass to GWR's Autumn Steam and Ale Festival
THE Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway will be raising a glass to real ale brewers this weekend with its Autumn Steam and Ale Festival.
Organised in conjunction with the North Cotswold Branch of CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale), the event offers an opportunity to sample about 24 different beers from mainly local breweries.
Now a regular fixture in the railway’s calendar, the Steam and Ale weekend takes place on Saturday and Sunday at Winchcombe station.
Organiser Andy Smith said: “Steam and real ale go so well together – combining traditional brewing with traditional railway transport.
“After all, once upon a time the railways played a key part in distributing beer around the country.
“Some of the larger breweries even had their own sidings, railway wagons and shunting locomotives.
“We expect to present at least 24 beers* as well as locally-brewed ciders so there really is something for everyone.”
A regular train service to the railway’s 'Red' Timetable will operate between Cheltenham Racecourse, Winchcombe, Toddington and Laverton.
Admission is by valid train ticket or a £2 platform ticket for non-travellers.
