Youngsters go quackers for ducklings
THESE six ducklings have been hand-reared by youngsters at a nursery near Shipston as part of a project about life cycles.
The pre-school class at Winchcombe Farm Day Nursery, Upper Tysoe, has gone quackers for the brood of Indian Runner ducklings which they watched grow over the last eight weeks, before they were released on to the nursery’s pond.
They have been helping care for the ducklings by turning the eggs in the incubator each day, and feeding and watering the ducklings once they hatched.
Rachel Giorgio, Winchcombe Farm Day Nursery manager, said: “This has been a wonderful project to help our youngsters learning about life cycles and has the added benefit of developing their literacy and numeracy skills too.
“We set up ‘duck corner’ while the ducklings were in the broader and the children were fascinated to watch them grow.
“It’s been such a popular project with our children and their parents, we shall be repeating it again soon in our toddlers room, aptly named the ducks room.”
