Charity champions set for an epic ride

THREE friends are gearing up for an epic journey from John O’Groats to Land’s End to raise £10,000 for charity.
John Hallam, who works at the Cranbourne B&B, in Bourton, is hoping to cover the entire length of the British Isles with team mates Gary Sowerbutts, aged 24, and Carl Maitland, 27, from Monday.
The group is extending the usual 868-mile route to just over 1,000 miles to include their home towns of Morecambe and Stafford as well as taking a detour through Bourton where Mr Hallam has lived for the last six years.
They have already raised £5,000 towards their target which they will donate to Right to Play, a charity which uses sport to educate and empower children to overcome the effects of poverty, conflict, and disease.
Mr Hallam is no stranger to hard work after raising £15,000 over several years by running 10 marathons.
“This is my first big cycling challenge,” said the 27-year-old. “I’m doing about 200 to 250 miles a week at the moment. We’re all looking forward to it but slightly nervous as the average is about 90 miles a day. It’s the thought of getting up the next day and doing the same for nine days.”
The group will be cycling through Bourton on Monday, September 9. To sponsor them visit justgiving.
