Readers help fund minibus repairs

A CHARITY’S plea for funds to repair a broken piece of equipment has been answered thanks to generous residents.
As reported in the Journal earlier this month, Stow Disability Association is facing a bill of more than £1,000 to mend a wheelchair lift on its two-year-old specially adapted minibus.
The VW Crafter minibus is used to transport elderly and disabled people to clubs, groups and hospital appointments across the Cotswolds from its base in Moreton.
The equipment was damaged at some point after the minibus was towed away when its gearbox failed but as liability for the damage had not been determined, the charity was in a state of limbo and unable to fund the repairs in the meantime.
But thanks to the generosity of readers, the charity has now received more than the total amount needed.
George Hill, chairman of the association, said: “We have got enough money now to repair the lift using new parts and it’s being done as we speak.
“It was really touching to think that the public reacted like that after just a matter of hours whereas those involved in the damage of the minibus have shown no compassion at all.
“It has restored my faith in human nature.”
