Having a ball down on the river
9:30am Thursday 29th August 2013 in News
THE normally peaceful waters of the river Windrush in Bourton were disturbed by the traditional Bank Holiday football in the river match.
Thousands of spectators converged on the river’s grassy banks for the highly anticipated 30-minute match held on Monday.
Two seven-a-side teams of players from Bourton Rovers Football Club made waves as they braved the chilly knee-high water for the popular match which ended in a 2-2 draw.
The event, which has been going for more than a century, was also held to raise money for a defibrillator and followed a village fete and duck racing.
Club secretary Doug Keen, who played in the match, said: “It was a really good day, a really good atmosphere. People came from all over to watch it.”
