Roadworks in Chipping Norton completed a week early
ROADWORKS which closed the main road through Chipping Norton have been completed a week ahead of schedule.
As previously reported in The Journal, the £400,000 project to resurface and repair the A44 Horsefair were expected to be carried out through much of August.
Many businesses said they had experienced a drop in trade after just four days into the work with one trader even making the decision to close his doors and only reopen when the work was complete.
But after works began on August 5, the road was fully reopened on Saturday.
County Councillor David Nimmo Smith, Oxfordshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “Our engineers have pulled out all the stops to get the work done as quickly as possible.
"I am sure that local people will be pleased that we have been able to get such a substantial job done so quickly.”
He added there would be no extra cost for the speedy work.
