Manager McLeish joins homes fight
8:00am Sunday 18th August 2013 in News
FOOTBALL manager Alex McLeish joined 120 Welford residents at a village parish council meeting to speak out against proposed housing developments.
Mr McLeish, a former manager of teams including Aston Villa and Birmingham City lives in the Warwickshire village near Bidford.
He said Stratford District Council’s lack of a strategic plan was to blame for speculative applications.
Four developers attended the meeting on Tuesday, August 6, with proposals of separate developments of 17, 20, 14 and 95 homes.
Parish council chairman Simon Carter said: “Some people were leaning in through windows to ask questions. Welford has 500 or so houses. The core strategy talks about it expecting 50 to 70 houses in the next 15 years. At the moment we can see we have nearly three times that many before Christmas.
We need Stratford District Council to get the core strategy signed. We are vulnerable.”
An action group has been set up called Save Welford to curb the building plans.
