THE owners of an Ebrington pub have fulfilled a life-long ambition by brewing their own beer.

Claire and Jim Alexander, who have owned the Ebrington Arms for the last seven years, are now selling their own beer called Yubby Bitter, so called due to villagers’ affectionate name for the village of ‘Yubberton’ and the pub known as ‘The Yubby’.

The 3.8 per cent copper ale is made with British malts and hops and the couple enlisted the services of a local expert food scientist Dr Julian South, who lectures on brewing technology at Campden BRI.

Mr Alexander said he had a clear idea of how the beer should taste – somewhere between his favourite pint of London Pride and Flowers.

“We’re going back to how it used to be when pubs brewed their own beer,” he said. “Lots are doing it already but I knew exactly what taste I was after so we’ve come up with a very traditional English bitter. It’s a bit of a dream come true to be honest.”

The new beer is also available in the couple’s other pub, The Killingworth Castle in Wootton, Oxfordshire.
