Two charged with fuel theft
MORE heating oil has been stolen in the Vale following a spate of thefts in recent weeks.
The recent spike in incidents is continuing across the area with Peopleton Village Hall among the latest sites to be targeted. Police have arrested and charged a man and woman with stealing fuel from the hall.
At 2am on Monday, officers were called after it had been reported a fuel theft was taking place from a tanker attached to the hall. A white van was seen pulling up and a security light disabled.
Minutes later, officers arrived and arrested two people at the scene. A man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s, both from Gloucester, were charged with theft and bailed to appear at Worcester Magistrates Court on Friday, April 5.
Inspector Sean Kent, who leads neighbourhood policing in Wychavon, said: “I would like to thank the members of the public for getting in touch so promptly. It meant we were able to respond immediately, make two arrests and on this occasion people have been charged with the offence 12 hours after it was committed.”
Meanwhile, between March 6 and 7, oil to the value of £800 was taken from Ullington House Farm, Ullington.
Inspector Kent added: “We would ask anyone who sees any unusual activity in rural areas to contact West Mercia Police.” Anyone with information should call 101.
