Regulars in mourning for much-loved moggy

SORELY MISSED: Alfie the cat, who lived at the Childswickham Inn and was a favourite with regulars, was killed by a hit-and-run driver outside the pub.
REGULARS at a village inn are in mourning after the pub’s popular cat was killed by a hit-and- run driver.
Alfie Marshall lived at the Childswickham Inn and was just four-and-a-half years old when he was hit by the car outside the pub.
The black and white moggy’s owner and landlord of the pub Kevin Donegan said Alfie was everyone’s favourite and he would be sorely missed.
“Everyone who comes in has been saying how much they will miss Alfie,” he said. “He used to sit on bar stools or jump on the back of people’s chairs to try to get them off.
“He was the loveliest cat you could ever meet and so much fun.
Everyone would be looking for him when they came in the pub.
”He was quite a character. Alfie would only drink out of a J2O glass. We would fill it up and leave it for him.”
The accident in Broadway Road on Monday, March 4, was seen by a neighbour, who told Mr Donegan she had tried to signal to the car to slow down but the driver just carried on.
“I was in the bar at the time and she came in very upset. I went outside and picked him up and could see there was no hope for him. It was very sad.
“The road is dangerous and people do travel fast.
They put some double yellow lines all around the pub but they still speed down the road.”
The family, including Mr Donegan’s partner Carol and her three daughters, have since buried Alfie in the garden and plan to put photos of him around the pub to keep his memory alive.
