£17k minibus appeal to link two schools
AN appeal has been launched to raise £17,000 for a new minibus which will be a vital link between two Cotswold primary schools.
It comes after a reserved matters application was approved by Cotswold District Council last month for a new primary school to be built in Upper Rissington.
It will be part of a huge new development which will include up to 368 homes, non-residential buildings and leisure facilities, shops and office space at the former RAF base in the village near Bourton-on-the-Water.
The Friends Committee of Great Rissington Primary School are hoping to raise the cash over the next 18 months ahead of the new school opening in September next year.
Karen von Speyr, committee member, said the new minibus would be an important addition to the federated schools. “At the moment we have to hire buses if we want to go anywhere,” she said.
“The idea of having a daily link between the two sites will be really important and will enable all sorts of activities to take place.
“It’s going to be a really important part of connecting the two sites.”
Children at both schools will be able to enjoy regular educational, recreational and social events and access the new sports facilities and playing fields at the new development.
A fund-raising frog racing event at Bourton Royal British Legion last Friday proved a big success.
“It was a terrific success,”
said Karen.
“We raised £2,500 and everyone had a wonderful time.
“Our next event is an auction of promises on Saturday, May 18, kindly hosted in the garden of the Lamb Inn, Great Rissington, by Paul and Jackie Gabriel.”
