Youngsters celebrate tradition

TRADITIONAL CELEBRATION: Stow Brownies Lucy Major, Charlie Dodridge with Rainbow friends Amelia John and Tabitha O’Driscoll take part in the day.
A CENTURY-old tradition enjoyed by youngsters all over the Cotswolds was celebrated at Swell School.
Members of the 1st Stow on the Wold Brownies took part in the world-wide celebrations for the birthday of Robert Baden- Powell and his wife Olave, founder of the Guiding movement, last month.
They gave a presentation to the whole school – many of whom are Rainbows, Brownies, Cubs or Scouts – after having their own celebration. Every year members of the Guiding movement celebrate the birthday of their founder on February 22, which is World Thinking Day.
Baden-Powell founded the Scout movement in 1907.
When the sisters of the Scouts saw their brother having such fun they asked if they could join in and in 1910 the Girl Guide Association was born.
In 1914 a junior section called the Rosebuds was formed and was quickly renamed Brownies.
