A RISING star in children’s literature has designed a new library card for youngsters in Worcestershire.

Children aged up to 12 will soon be able to get their hands on the new children’s library card at libraries and schools across the county as part of a day of celebrations on World Book Day.

The card was designed by Liz Pichon, who was recently a winner at the 2012 National Book Awards.

She is the author of the popular Tom Gates book series and has included characters from the books in her design for Worcestershire’s children’s library card.

A video clip will be screened, so children can learn about her ideas and the design behind the illustrations for the new card.

Ruth Foster, literacy and reading manager at Worcestershire County Council, said: “We are delighted to be launching a library card specifically for children and are very lucky to have such a popular children’s author design the card for us.”

The video will also be available online at worcestershire.gov.uk/librariesandlearning.
