GLOUCESTERSHIRE firefighters honed their flood rescue response skills at a major exercise in Dorset. The event, hosted by Dorset Fire and Rescue Service, involved more than 150 partner organisations including other fire and rescue services, police, RNLI, RSPCA and voluntary rescue organisations. A rescue boat and crew went to the event, which gave Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service the chance to demonstrate its capability in future flooding emergencies, on a local, regional and national level.

Following the floods of 2007, Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service put in a successful bid to the Department for the Environmement, Food and Rural Affairs to improve its rescue capability and was awarded just over £56,000.

Some of this money went towards the new rescue boat, designed to operate in a variety of flooding scenarios and also provided a water rescue team at Moreton Fire Station.
