PUPILS at Blockley CE Primary School have caught the reading bug thanks to a donation from Cotswold supermarket Warner’s Budgens.

They are taking part in the Bug reading scheme, an interactive online initiative that encourages children to develop a lifelong love of reading.

Just over £350 was raised through the food store’s community savings scheme, which means the school can buy the reading scheme for key stage 2 pupils.

The scheme offers a wide range of books and plays, with some written by children’s laureate and Gruffalo author Julia Donaldson.

It also has games to play and a parents’ guide to each book so they can discuss the book with their children at home.

Headteacher Linda Jeffcut said: “We are so grateful to Warner’s Budgens and their customers. The children are all extremely excited about their new books and can’t wait to get started.”
