TEMPERS flared over the future of Stow-on-the-Wold’s visitor information centre (VIC) as the town council came under fire during a heated public meeting.

The meeting was held on Valentine’s Day but there was no love lost as more than 35 members of the public packed into Stow Youth Centre and voiced their fears about the future of the “vital” service.

No resolution was reached over the future of the VIC but the massed public ranks were told that there are three parties potentially interested in taking it over.

These are the town’s cricket museum, in Sheep Street, a property in the town square and Stow Library.

Privately-run VIC Go Stow closed in December following a row over funding.

Stow Town Council will now continue to hold discussions with people keen to run a visitor centre, with Coun Chris Turner planning to hold a meeting open to any interested parties.
