AN historic find has been made in the Cotswolds after 165 million-year-old dinosaur footprints were discovered.
Footprints from a Therapod and Megalosaurus were dug up at Huntsmans Quarries about a month ago and have gone on display for the first time at the Cotswold Farm Park.
Claire Reid, from the Gloucestershire Geology Trust, said: “This proves categorically that dinosaurs were roaming the land that the park now occupies.”
The limestone rocks, which lie underneath the farm park, were deposited in the Middle Jurassic, about 165 million years ago. The megalosaurus, a carnivore measuring up to nine metres long, is believed to have left the footprints in the soft mud as it came down to the water’s edge.
Visitors to the Cotswold Farm Park will be able to get stuck into a new attraction, when it opens for the new season on Saturday – the Jurassic Dig – a simulated archaeological dig.
