FIVE people have been injured in a three-car pileup on a notorious stretch of road near Shipston.

The crash happened at the junction of the A429 and Darlingscote Road at about 9.40am this morning involving a silver Dodge Journey MPV, a blue Jaguar XF and a red Ford Fiesta.

Two ambulances, a paramedic area manager, and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham and the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance attended the scene.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta, a man in his 60s, was trapped in the car for an hour before he was cut out of the wreckage by firefighters.

He was taken by the Midlands Air Ambulance to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire suffering with injuries to his lower legs, and also head, face and pelvic injuries.

The driver of a car that was found on its side in a ditch, a man in his 40s, was already out of the vehicle and received treatment for serious chest injuries.

He was transferred by land ambulance to the same hospital for further treatment.

Area Manager, Martyn Scott, said: “Crews arrived to find three cars and a lorry that had been in a significant collision.

“Three other people who were travelling in the third car, two men and a woman, received treatment at the scene for minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment. The lorry driver was uninjured in the crash.”

The A429 was closed between the scene of the crash and the Portobello junction for several hours while recovery work was carried out.

A Warwickshire Police spokesman said: “Any witnesses who saw any of the vehicles prior to the collision or witnesses to the crash should call Warwickshire Police on 01926 415415.”
