AN Evesham business forum has praised the town’s first traditional Christmas market for its positive impact on the local economy and hopes it will become an annual event.

VECTA, the Vale of Evesham Commerce and Tourism Association, met this month and reflected on the festive market held in the town in the run-up to Christmas.

Tony Rowland, chairman, said: “The general consensus among VECTA members was the Christmas Market had a very positive effect on the town’s economy.

“It created a festive spirit within the town centre, and brought more passing trade than would have occurred if the market had not been there.”

The event was organised by market operator Joseph Jones.

Mr Rowland said: “Hopefully the success from last year will allow Joe to build the Christmas Market into an even bigger feature this December.

“Hopefully there will be an even greater mix of outlets offering festive goods and bringing people into the town centre in the run-up to this Christmas.”
