Teen book award

YOUNG bookworms from across Worcestershire have picked their favourite reads for a special award.

Pupils from schools including those in Evesham and Worcester took part in sessions where they thumbed through a selection of titles to choose their shortlist for the Worcestershire Teen Book Award.

The nominees for the accolade are Soldier Dog by Sam Angus, Dead Time by Anne Cassidy,The Haunting of Tabitha Grey by Vanessa Curtis, Girl, Stolen by April Henry, Socks Are Not Enough by Mark Lowery, and The Other Life by Suzanne Winnacker.

These will now be read over the spring term to decide which will be the winner of the county’s teen book award, with the result being announced at a quiz and celebration event in the Council Chamber at County Hall on World Book Night in April.

Worcestershire County Council’s schools library service manager, Dawn Woods, said: “Every year the Worcestershire Teen Book Award is becoming more popular and generating more excitement as schools now know what to expect and enjoy being part of the build-up and anticipation. It’s a great opportunity for young people to expand their range of reading genres and develop their critical thinking skills – and above all have fun.”
