Winchcombe play park closed for safety reasons
5:07pm Friday 25th January 2013 in News By Freya Leng
A CHILDREN’S play area in Winchcombe has been closed for safety reasons.
The town council decided to close the Jubilee Play Park last month because the spongy rubber tiles covering the ground had become slippery with algae.
It will remain closed until the flooring dries out.
Ron Harrison, chairman of Winchcombe Town Council, said: “We have decided for health and safety reasons we would close it and give it a good clean.
“The trees overshadow it so it never gets proper sunlight and it needs it to clear the algae and dry it out. It became very slippery especially in the winter when its damp.
“In the long term we may have to replace the surface with a different kind of material that doesn't become slippery.
“When the weather improves we can get at it properly and refurbish.”
The play park was opened in the 1970s for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee.
- While the play park remains closed, children can still use the playground in the King George Field, Mill Lane or the play area in Becketts Lane, in Greet.
