A LUCKY street in Evesham has seen its second winner pocket the top prize in the town’s monthly loyalty card prize draw.

The winner of January’s jackpot, Michael Parker, aged 76, lives in Digby Road, just four doors away from the winner of December’s draw.

Mr Parker was thrilled to have won the £1,000 worth of vouchers, describing the moment he heard as “a delightful surprise”.

Although he is still planning to buy some shoes and clothes with the vouchers, Mr Parker has already shared the majority of the winnings with his family – his two sons, daughter-inlaw and two grandchildren, all of whom live locally.

“It’s the sort of thing that always happens to someone else, so it was a delightful surprise,” said Mr Parker, who has lived in Evesham for 71 years. “I know the previous winner Simon Johns very well so it must be a very lucky street “I am a firm believer in shopping locally and it’s lovely to have won these vouchers just for doing so.”

Mr Parker’s winning card was drawn at random at the Rainbow Chippy, in Port Street, which was the first shop in Evesham to have YES shopping vouchers spent in it.

The chip shop owner, known locally as Giggsy, plans to frame the first ticket.

He said: “The scheme seems to be working well and I have noticed quite a few people coming in with the cards for them to be stamped.

“It’s good for the town and when people see others winning £1,000 it should encourage more people to support local business too.”
