Special services will light up Gloucester Cathedral

‘Candlelit Cathedral’ is a special week of events being held at Gloucester Cathedral in celebration of Candlemas.

The Very Reverend Stephen Lake, Dean of Gloucester said “Come and experience this unique opportunity at your Cathedral.”

On Sunday 3 February at 10.15am there will be a Candlemas Eucharist with procession to the Lady Chapel, then at 4.00pm (after evensong) Gloucester Cathedral Quire will be filled with the sound of the Cathedral choirboys singing a special candlelit performance of Britten’s ‘A Ceremony of Carols’ accompanied by harpist Eluned Pierce. Admission is free with a retiring collection in aid of Cathedral Music.No ticket is required.

On Tuesday 5 and Thursday 7 February at 7.00pm, ‘Tours by Torchlight’ offer a guided tour lasting 90 minutes with one of the volunteer Guides. Bring your own torch or buy one when you arrive! Tickets are £10 available from www.gloucestercathedral.org.uk or telephone 0845 652 1823.

On Sunday 10 February at 5.00pm a Christingle Service, takes place, the main element being the lighting of Christingle candles.
