A PRIMARY school in Moreton has been recognised for bringing the world into the classroom with a prestigious award.

Dormer House School has been awarded the British Council’s International School Award, a badge of honour for schools that do outstanding work in international education.

Over the past three years, the school has forged strong links with schools in Guatemala, Russia and Singapore.

The partnerships have been the result of the arrival of a new pupil from outside the UK and the school community celebrating a new and different culture.

Children have learnt about the culture in a variety of activities including exchanging letters, scrapbooks and presentations.

The pupils have also celebrated International Peace Day, Chinese New Year and French Day and supported the publication of a book in Ixil, a dialect spoken in Guatemala.

Alex Sloan, director of studies, said: “This award reflects the desire of the children at Dormer House School to want to find out about their role as future global citizens.”

The pupils are now looking forward to some new activities to bring the partner schools closer still.

Dormer House School is holding its open day today.

This deserves more publicity and I will mention this award during my show Monday evening from 8pm on North Cotswold Community Radio.
