Legion donates clock to hospital

TIMEPIECE: Councillor Martin Jarrett, Mayor of Chipping Norton, left, Jane Gridley, site administrator and RBL branch Chairman Alec Shepherd.
THE Chipping Norton War Memorial Community Hospital has a new clock thanks to a sharp-eyed patient.
Earlier this year Malcolm Holland, Chipping Norton Royal British Legion (CN RBL) committee member and standard bearer, was in the outpatient waiting room when he noticed the department was missing a timepiece.
He suggested to his fellow members that the Legion donate a clock to the hospital as a “thank you” to the staff for the service they provide to the community.
After giving the idea their full support, a clock was commissioned from the Old Map and Clock Company in Penzance, Cornwall.
Mike Howes, CN RBL member, said the recent sale of the CN RBL club building had made the donation possible and members hoped to use interest gained on the funds from the sale to give back to the community in future projects.
“Giving back is what the Legion is all about,” he said.
Jane Gridley, hospital site administrator, said: “The outpatient team is absolutely delighted with the new clock. We are very grateful to the Chipping Norton Royal British Legion for their very kind donation .”
