BUDDING entrepreneurs at a Vale school have been setting up their own businesses as part of an apprentice ‘learning journey’.

The youngsters, all aged between 10 and 11, from St Nicholas C of E Middle School in Pinvin displayed the work, including printed bags and T-shirts, at an exhibition.

The apprentice project runs for one term and saw the year six pupils design, cost and order materials for their items before making them and taking orders.

Louise Newman, year six co-ordinator, said: “Learning journeys have proved to be an excellent way of engaging the children by providing a wide range of real, not fabricated, contexts for doing things.

“It is fantastic how open and enthusiastic the children have become making use of their skills for life and everyone has very high expectations of themselves.”
