Children take over museum for a day
2:00pm Saturday 5th January 2013 in News
YOUNGSTERS in Broadway ruled the roost for one day as part of a national initiative.
Pupils at St Mary’s RC Primary School were left in charge of the Gordon Russell Design Museum in the village.
They were taking part in Children’s Commissioner’s national Takeover Day 2012 – an initiative which gives children and young people the opportunity to be involved in decision-making, experience the world of work and make their voices heard in a bid to break down barriers between generations and encourage them to be active in their communities.
Richard Paice, chairman of the trustees at the museum, said: “As I arrived on the morning, the place was abuzz with a crowd of neatly- uniformed schoolchildren.
“I had forgotten it was Takeover Day.
“Before I knew it, I was whisked away for a personal tour by a smart 10-year-old.
His confidence and enjoyment at taking me around was just a delight.
“As I left he finished by saying he hoped to welcome me again soon. A real professional.”
