Christmas market success
11:00am Saturday 5th January 2013 in News
HUNDREDS of people took to Evesham High Street to enjoy the town’s first traditional Christmas market.
The event was enjoyed by visitors from December 14 to Christmas Eve.
With more than two dozen stalls and continental-style log cabins offering produce from Polish rugs and handweaved baskets to mulled wine, the event was deemed a great success.
Market operator Joseph Jones organised the event in partnership with Evesham Town Council.
He said: “It’s been really successful. People have travelled from places such as Bristol and Birmingham to visit the market.
“Evesham seems to have been a bit lost but we’re getting people to come back and the town council have done a really good job providing space for it.”
The market is set to return next year and the local economy has seen an increased amount of footfall from the market.
Evesham town councillor Gerry O’Donnell said: “Although we started in a relatively small way, the Christmas market and other associated events have been a great success.
“Much has been achieved through the year with our regular Saturday markets, and the Christmas market is building on that success.”
