Driver had drink while waiting for a takeaway
A DRINK-driver had a pint in a pub while his wife’s takeaway meal was cooked.
Anton Kwiatek, aged 57, of Lavender Walk, Evesham, who has no previous convictions, admitted driving with excess alcohol on September 28.
Owen Beale, prosecuting, said a blood alcohol test showed 107mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 80ml.
Belinda Ariss, defending, called it a “low reading”.
She said Kwiatek had offered to get chicken and chips, but because it was not cooked when he went to collect it he had a pint. He had already had two cans after work, Mrs Ariss said.
She said Kwiatek was sorry and ashamed. He had large debts after borrowing money to pay for his daughter’s wedding and having to have his son’s body flown back to the UK after he died in a road accident in Thailand.
Worcester magistrates banned him from driving for 12 months, fined him £330 and told him to pay a £15 victim surcharge and £85 costs. He can reduce that ban by completing a drink-drive course.
