A NEW community orchard in a Vale village had its first trees planted by some familiar faces.

Two Worcester Warriors players visited Harvington last week and helped children from the village school plant the first tree.

Scrum-half Paul Hodgson and hooker Ed Shervington took part in the ceremonial planting and marked the start of the project, which aims to tackle the surface run-off water that causes substantial flooding on Leys Road in the village.

Phil Bawn from the Harvington Trust thanked all those who had been involved in the project.

Also helping plant was Councillor Richard Morris, chairman of Wychavon District Council.

He said naming the Jubilee Orchard after the Queen was a “fitting tribute”, adding: “This will be a great open space for Harvington. I would also like to congratulate the partnership on an innovative solution to flooding.
